Muskegon Voyagers Crowned 2025 Bill Long Memorial Champions

The 2025 Bill Long Memorial Cup has been claimed by the Muskegon Voyagers, who edged out the Waterford Sharks in an overtime thriller on Saturday night at Lakeshore Sports Centre. Muskegon secured the title in a tightly contested best-of-five series where every game was decided by a single goal—cementing this final as one of the most memorable in MIHL history.

"This was the pinnacle of what has been a great season," said MIHL Commissioner Scott Brand. "While we celebrate and congratulate Muskegon, Waterford was just as deserving. These two teams represent the standard of excellence for Semi-Professional Senior A Hockey."

A Banner Year for the MIHL

Beyond the thrilling finals, the MIHL achieved several major milestones this season. Every team, including the Warhawks and 45er’s, successfully completed their full schedules—an impressive feat in any minor professional or semi-professional league.

Looking ahead, the MIHL is expanding. Two new franchises—the Flint Shadow and the Cheboygan Wendigo—will join the league for the 2025–26 season. With the expansion deadline set for June 15, the league has not ruled out the addition of up to two more teams.

Building for the Future

Behind the scenes, the league is undergoing significant development. Efforts are underway to establish a new set of by-laws and operational regulations to bring greater transparency to league affairs. Plans are also in motion to expand broadcast capabilities, introduce real-time scoring, and grow the league office with key hires including a Director of Officiating, a Media Coordinator, and several working committees.

“We’ve had incredibly talented individuals step up and volunteer their expertise,” said Brand. “With their experience, along with incoming interns, we’re confident we can elevate the league to new heights.”
