MIHL INCREASES REGULAR SEASON GAMES FOR THE 2025-26 SEASON

June 2, 2025 (St. Louis, MI) — The Michigan Independence Hockey League (MIHL) announced today that the league has voted to increase the number of regular-season games from 24 to 26 for the 2025–26 season. In addition, with the announcement of the league's eighth team expected later this week, the updated schedule will include divisional play.

Under the new format, teams will play each non-divisional opponent twice (once at home and once away) for a total of 8 games. Divisional opponents will be played six times (three home and three away), totaling 18 games. The regular season is scheduled to begin the weekend of October 18 and will run through March 21.

“Our scheduling committee did a great job,” said MIHL Commissioner Scott Brand. “We’ve built in breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas, added flexibility for potential weather issues, significantly increased rivalry games, and reduced travel—all while maintaining a schedule that allows our players to participate in semi-professional hockey and pursue careers outside the sport. The committee did an amazing job balancing competition and practicality.”

The league is still finalizing the playoff schedule, with more information expected in the coming weeks.

Now entering its sixth season, the Michigan Independence Hockey League continues to deliver competitive, semi-professional hockey featuring skilled players with junior, collegiate, and professional experience. The league remains committed to fostering a sustainable, community-supported hockey environment.
